The practical bits, all in one place.

We’ve gathered together the questions guests ask us most often, covering everything from parking and accessibility to what you’ll find in your hut. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Are dogs and pets allowed?

We don’t allow dogs or other pets at Nàdar. Our meadows and gardens are carefully managed to support the wildlife that calls the site home, including hares and a variety of wild birds, and we want to protect this environment.

Is there a minimum night stay?

Yes, we have a minimum two-night stay policy. Please check our booking calendar for specific availability.

What time is check in and check out?

You’re welcome to arrive any time after 3pm on your check-in day.  We offer self check-in using a keysafe lockbox and we will send you all the necessary details before your arrival. For departure, we kindly ask that you check out by 10am. Early check-in and late check-out may be available on request (charges may apply).

Will someone meet us on arrival?

We normally offer self check-in, with your keys waiting in the lockbox when you arrive. If you’d prefer someone to meet you and show you around, that’s no problem at all — just let us know ahead of your arrival.

What if we arrive late?

Late arrivals are absolutely fine. We offer self check-in, and the lighting around the car park, paths and signs will help guide you to your hut, even after dark. We’ll send you everything you need before you arrive, and if you have any trouble finding your way or getting settled in, just get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.

How many huts are on site and are they all the same?

We have three luxury shepherd’s huts on site called Juniper, Birch and Willow. Each one is identical and all share excellent panoramic views of the beautiful surrounding area.

How many people can stay in each one?

Our shepherd’s huts are designed for two adults. An infant or young child may be accommodated in a travel cot by prior arrangement.

Are children allowed?

An infant or young child may be accommodated in a travel cot by prior arrangement, so please contact us before booking if this applies to you.

What is the weather like?

Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so we recommend coming prepared for all seasons. Winters can be cold, wet and occasionally snowy, while summer can bring anything from cool, rainy days to warm sunshine. On rare occasions, high winds or storms may mean that certain outdoor experiences are temporarily paused for safety.

How big are the huts?

Measuring 22 feet x 9 feet, each one with a bedroom, living area and en-suite bathroom.

Can I book all three huts together?

Yes. If you’re travelling as a group, you’re welcome to book all three huts together, subject to availability. Each hut sleeps two adults, so Nàdar can accommodate up to six adults across the site. If you’re planning a group stay, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help coordinate the booking.

What is the road access like?

Nàdar is reached via a short rural single-track road. The road is perfectly accessible by normal cars, but as you’d expect in the countryside it can be uneven in places and should be driven slowly. We think it’s part of the adventure and a small price to pay for the peace and views at the end!

Is there parking on-site?

Yes. There is a dedicated parking area beside the site entrance, with one space per hut. Additional parking may be available on request.

Is Nàdar suitable for guests with limited mobility?

Nàdar is located in private rural countryside close to working farms, so the terrain outside the site is a mix of single track (bumpy) lanes, gravel paths and grass. Inside the site is mainly grass with some paved landscaping and gravel outside each hut with steps up to the door. While some guests with limited mobility may be able to enjoy their stay, Nàdar may not be suitable for all mobility needs. We’re always happy to talk through your individual requirements before booking, please just get in touch.

Do you provide bedding and towels?

Yes. All bedding and towels are provided, along with a comfy robe to wear to the sauna and relax in during your stay.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes. We have full fibre broadband throughout Nàdar, so you can stay connected when you want to, and switch off when you don’t.

Is there a mobile signal on site?

Yes, there is good mobile signal on site.

Are there cooking facilities?

Yes. Each hut has a hob, microwave, fridge and kettle, along with plates, cutlery and a small table with two stools.

Can we bring our own food?

Absolutely. Each of our Shepherd’s Huts is self-catering, so you’re very welcome to bring along your own food and drinks to enjoy during your stay. As Nàdar is in the countryside, there aren’t currently any food delivery services that come out to the site. You can, however, order takeaway from some local restaurants and collect it by car.

Are any essentials provided in the huts?

We provide tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, olive oil and washing-up liquid. Fresh milk is waiting in the fridge for your arrival. We also have booking extras available if you’re looking to add a little something extra to your stay.

Is there an en-suite bathroom?

Yes. Each hut has its own en-suite shower room with a toilet, shower, soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner from The Highland Soap Company, an organic Scottish brand.

Is there heating in the huts?

Yes. Each Shepherd’s Hut has an electric radiator and is very well insulated to help keep it warm and comfortable throughout the year. The large windows also make the most of any sunshine — even on a cool spring day, a little sun can naturally warm the hut surprisingly quickly. During colder weather, the electric heating is there to keep you cosy and comfortable, whatever the Scottish weather is doing outside.

Is there a TV?

There are no TVs in the huts. We do have high speed Wi-Fi if you’d like to stream something on your own device, but we’ve deliberately kept the huts free from screens so you can enjoy the surroundings.

Is the sauna included and can you book?

Yes. Every stay at Nàdar includes a complimentary one-hour private sauna session for each night of your stay. Sauna sessions are available to book during the afternoon and evening, so you can enjoy your hour after a day out or as you settle in for the evening. The sauna and cold shower area are enclosed by plants and trees, creating a secluded space to enjoy your time.
If you book directly with us, you can reserve your sauna session as part of your booking. Airbnb guests will receive a personal sauna booking code after their reservation is confirmed. Find out more about our private sauna.

Do you have hot tubs?

No. We’ve chosen not to have hot tubs at Nàdar because of the amount of water and energy they require. Instead, we’ve opted for a private outdoor sauna, which feels like a more natural fit for the experience we want to create here.

Is electric car charging provided on-site?

Yes. We have an electric vehicle charging point on site, which is available for an additional charge.

Are there shops or restaurants nearby?

Yes. Drymen village is around a mile (1.6km) away and makes for a lovely walk from Nàdar. The village has several pubs and restaurants, as well as a pharmacy and craft shop. Depending on your pace, you can walk there in around 20 minutes or drive in under five. You’ll find a small Spar convenience store just across from the pubs, with most everyday essentials, food and drinks. There’s also a local butcher selling meat and vegetables, along with a bakery in the square that’s a good spot for coffee and cake. View our guide on exploring the local area for more inspiration during your stay.

How far is the nearest larger supermarket?

If you’re stocking up for your stay, there’s a large Co-op in Balloch, around 20 minutes by car from Nàdar. A little further towards Glasgow, you’ll find Waitrose and Aldi side by side in Milngavie, around 30 minutes away.

Can I walk to the West Highland Way?

The West Highland Way is just a 15 minute walk or less than a 10 minute bike ride from Nàdar. The trail passes through Drymen, making it easy to join the route directly from the village and explore further afield.

Is there a gym or swimming pool nearby?

The Buchanan Arms Hotel, just along from the village square, also offers reasonably priced day passes for its leisure facilities. You don’t need to be a member to use the gym and swimming pool, which also has a hot tub, steam room and outdoor sauna.

Do you provide any extras we should know about?

A breakfast hamper with homemade granola, fruit compote, fresh pastries and other local produce can be ordered through our website. Each hut also has its own outdoor fire pit, and BBQ packs with a selection of meats that can be ordered in advance. Charcoal and firelighters are provided.

Does the site have midges and bugs?

Like much of the west and north of Scotland, Nàdar can have midges, particularly on still, damp days. They tend to be less of a problem when there’s a breeze, which we often have on site. From around June to early September, clegs (horseflies) can also make an appearance. We provide a bug diffuser and insect repellent for guests to use if needed.

Do you have quiet time hours?

As sound carries easily across the site, we ask guests to switch off music and keep conversations to a low volume between 9pm and 8am. During the day, we simply ask everyone to respect each other and enjoy the sounds of nature around them — birds singing, bees humming and the other little sounds of the countryside.

What are you doing to make Nàdar more sustainable?

Sustainability has been at the heart of many of the decisions we’ve made while creating Nàdar. We’ve tried to make thoughtful choices wherever we can, from using sheep’s wool insulation to help keep the huts warm and reduce energy use, to managing our meadows, gardens and growing spaces in ways that support local wildlife and biodiversity. We’ve also been mindful of how we shape the landscape itself. Wherever possible, we’ve kept hard landscaping to a minimum, allowing grass and planting to remain a bigger part of the site. We’ve chosen native species of plants and trees that are suited to the local area, rather than bringing in varieties from much further afield.

We’ve also chosen not to install hot tubs because of the amount of water and energy they require. Instead, we offer an outdoor sauna that can be booked in advance, allowing us to run it around the times guests are actually using it rather than keeping it heated throughout the day. We’re not perfect, and we know that welcoming guests to stay in the countryside will always have an impact. But we’ll continue to look for practical ways to reduce that impact while protecting and enhancing the landscape that makes this place so special.
