Attractions & experiences beyond Loch Lomond

When you feel like venturing further afield, there’s no shortage of places worth making a day of. From whisky distilleries and historic castles to a day in Edinburgh or something altogether wilder, there’s plenty to discover within easy reach of Nàdar.

Whisky on the Highland Line

A short 15-minute drive from Nàdar, Glengoyne Distillery has been producing whisky since 1833. Sitting on the Highland Line, with the distillery in the Highlands and its warehouses across the road in the Lowlands, it occupies a rather unique spot. Known for its famously slow distillation process, Glengoyne offers guided tours, in-depth tasting experiences and a well-stocked shop.

Take your time, enjoy a dram or two, and discover the story behind one of Scotland’s most distinctive single malts.

Step into Scotland’s History

One of Scotland’s grandest and most historically significant castles, Stirling Castle brings the country’s royal past to life. Explore magnificent 16th-century Renaissance architecture, grand royal apartments and the Great Hall, with costumed guides, exhibitions and stories of the kings and queens who once lived there.

Perched high above the city, the castle offers wonderful views across the surrounding countryside and makes a fascinating day out, only a 45-minute drive from Nàdar.

Edinburgh: Old Streets, Great Stories

Edinburgh makes a wonderful day out from Nàdar. Wander through the medieval Old Town, follow the Royal Mile beneath the castle and lose yourself among the narrow lanes and cobbled streets, where centuries of stories are woven into the city around you. Take your time, stop for a coffee or a dram, and simply soak up the atmosphere rather than trying to see it all.

In August, the city comes alive with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, filling its streets and stages with performers from around the world.

A Wild Day Out

Just 30 minutes from Nàdar by car, Blair Drummond Safari Park is a great day out and something a little different from the usual Scottish sights. Opened in 1970 as Scotland’s first safari park, it’s home to lions, rhinos, giraffes and more, with a drive-through safari, animal encounters, bird-of-prey displays and even a prehistoric dinosaur forest.

We think it’s one of those places that adults can enjoy just as much as children. There’s something rather magical about seeing animals up close that you’d never normally encounter. Enjoy a wonderfully unexpected way to experience nature while you’re here.
